Senior Business Analyst
Are you a Senior Business Analyst who thrives when the problem is complex, the requirements are unclear and the path forward is yet to be defined?
This is an opportunity to join a member-focused organisation delivering significant digital and business improvement initiatives. Working closely with the Product Manager and a highly knowledgeable group of subject-matter experts, you will lead detailed discovery to understand user needs, uncover complex business requirements and translate them into clear processes, business rules, decision trees and high-quality epics.
It is a 6 month daily rate contract, with an ASAP start date.
This is not a Technical Business Analyst role. We are looking for someone with strong product, process and user-centred analysis capability who can explore the problem deeply before defining what the solution needs to achieve.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading discovery where there are significant unknowns and limited existing requirements
- Facilitating conversations with subject-matter experts to uncover business rules, user needs, exceptions and dependencies
- Exploring how users can submit historical data across different periods, potentially spanning 20–30 years
- Analysing complex calculations
- Developing decision trees, business logic, process flows and clear requirements
- Identifying edge cases and testing assumptions to ensure proposed solutions work across multiple user scenarios
- Writing detailed, well-structured epics, user stories and acceptance criteria
- Supporting the Product Manager to define and prioritise the product backlog
- Conducting user research and ensuring decisions remain focused on the user experience
- Mapping current and future-state processes and identifying opportunities for business improvement
- Distilling complex information into documentation that is clear and easy for different audiences to understand
What we’re looking for
You will be an experienced Senior Business Analyst with strong discovery and problem-solving capability. You are comfortable entering an environment where stakeholders may understand the subject matter deeply but have not yet articulated what they need from the product.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading discovery for complex or ambiguous initiatives
- Strong requirements elicitation skills, particularly where requirements are undocumented or initially unclear
- Experience analysing detailed business rules, calculations, decision logic and exception scenarios
- Excellent process-mapping and business-process-improvement capability
- Strong experience writing epics, user stories and acceptance criteria
- A user-centred approach, with the ability to distinguish between user needs and system functionality
- Experience supporting Product Managers or Business Owners with backlog development and prioritisation
- The confidence to ask probing questions, challenge assumptions and identify gaps in information
- Excellent written communication and the ability to make complex concepts easy to understand
- Experience working in an Agile product or delivery environment
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence and Microsoft Office
Experience with design thinking, user research, journey mapping or prototyping would be highly regarded.
This role will suit someone naturally curious, analytical and methodical - someone who enjoys going several layers deeper to understand how a process really works and why.
