A rapidly growing local government authority in Melbourne’s western corridor is seeking an experienced IT Business Lead to join its Information & Technology team. Operating in a collaborative and forward-looking environment, this role serves as the central engine for operational governance, business planning, and accountability across technology operations.
This opportunity is purpose-built for a governance professional who brings proven capability in audit and compliance, alongside a track record of setting up and embedding a compliance function from the ground up.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Portfolio & Governance lead, you will shape how the department manages risk, evidence, and compliance. Rather than simply maintaining existing schedules, you will take ownership of designing, implementing, and embedding a fit-for-purpose compliance framework.
On a day-to-day level, you will manage end-to-end audit readiness, liaise with internal and external auditors, coordinate risk mitigations, and ensure remediation roadmaps stay on track. Beyond compliance, you will oversee departmental reporting rhythms, track operational expenditure and vendor pipelines, and refine procedural documentation to ensure technology delivery remains transparent, compliant, and continuously improving.
What You Bring
- Specialist Compliance Setup Experience: A demonstrated background in establishing, structuring, and maturing an IT compliance or regulatory framework within a complex enterprise or public-sector environment.
- Audit Leadership: Proven capability managing comprehensive responses to internal and external audits, establishing compliance registers, and translating findings into practical action plans.
- Operational Governance & Planning: Solid grounding across performance reporting, operational planning cycles, procurement coordination, and budget monitoring.
- Influencing & Communication: Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to bridge technical teams and business leaders, communicate risk with clarity, and embed consistent governance habits.
- Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Business Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical industry expertise.
